On January 26th, the Shanghai Architecture Society, Shanghai Urban Economics Society, and Shanghai Cultural Relics Protection Engineering Industry Association jointly released the "First Batch of Recommended List of Excellent Modern and Contemporary (1949-2000) Buildings in Shanghai". The first high-rise residential area in Shanghai's architectural history, Quyang New Village, constructed by Suzhong Construction in the 1980s, was included in the list. Only 50 well-known buildings were selected in this batch.
Selection background:
Since the reform and opening up, Shanghai has become a model for both urban construction and the protection of historical buildings nationwide. The five batches of outstanding historical buildings that have been issued basically cover historical buildings before 1949, but the vast majority of outstanding modern and contemporary buildings representing different categories of historical periods in the more than 70 years since the founding of New China in 1949 have not been included in the list, becoming an urgent issue that needs attention in the era of stock development.
Based on this, in July 2017, the Shanghai Architecture Society initiated a joint project with four units: the Shanghai Urban Economy Society, the Shanghai Planning and Land Resources Management Bureau, the Shanghai Housing Management Bureau, and the East China Architectural Design and Research Institute to jointly launch the value evaluation and investigation of excellent modern and contemporary (1949 to present) buildings in Shanghai, and applied to become a key project of the Shanghai Planning and Land Resources Management Bureau.
At the beginning of 2019, the research report on the value evaluation of excellent modern and contemporary buildings and the research results on the value trial evaluation of excellent modern and contemporary high-rise buildings in Shanghai were completed.
Based on the further transformation of theoretical achievements into practical applications, in early 2021, with the support and guidance of the Science and Technology Committee of the Shanghai Housing and Urban Rural Construction Management Committee, the Shanghai Architectural Society, in conjunction with the Shanghai Urban Economic Society and the Shanghai Cultural Relics Protection Engineering Industry Association, conducted a value survey of excellent modern and contemporary buildings in Shanghai (1949-2000). Through research team surveys and multiple expert review meetings, various eras were gradually selected A list of excellent modern and contemporary architecture of various types has been released, and the first batch of recommended lists has been recently released.
Quyang New Village is located on Quyang Road in Hongkou District, Shanghai. It is the first high-rise residential area in Shanghai's architectural history. In addition to the standard 24 story building, there are also 4 equipment floors, with a total height of 80 meters and a total construction area of 117300 square meters. Due to strict inspection and control of each process, experts have given high praise for "first-class quality". The project has been rated as a high-quality project in Shanghai and a high-quality project outside Jiangsu Province, and has been commended by the Shanghai Municipal Government. The company has also become the first construction enterprise from another province or city to receive this honor. Quyang New Village was also listed as one of the "Ten Scenic Spots" of Shanghai by the Shanghai Municipal Government at that time, and was voted by Shanghai citizens and experts in 1989 to be one of the "Top Ten Buildings" of Shanghai in the forty years since the founding of the People's Republic of China.
